Court Refuses to Reinstate Nurse Who Swung Patient's Underwear Around Her Head
Australia: The NSW Supreme Court has refused to order a nurse to be reinstated on the NSW nurses register after she was struck off for two years and nine months following an inappropriate incident while on duty.
The nurse was struck off after she hit a female patient on the head with a shampoo bottle, threw a washer at her, washed her groin and breasts suggestively, and following the shower swung the patient's underwear around above her head while laughing.
The nurse argued that her behaviour was due to self-administered pethidine and that the incident had not been properly investigated. In denying the appeal Justice John Hislop said no error in law had been shown.
